Setup Guide
On iPhone? Dispatch is Android-only. Use Voice Memos + iCloud instead.
Where recordings go
By default, recordings save to your device at Documents/dispatch/.
If you want your AI agents to pick up recordings automatically, connect Google Drive:
- Long-press anywhere in Dispatch to open settings
- Tap Google Drive → Connect
- Sign in with your Google account
Recordings upload to a dispatch/ folder on your Drive. Dispatch uses the drive.file scope — it can only see / touch files it created.
Transcription (opt-in)
Dispatch can transcribe recordings to text. Two options:
On-device
Enable in settings. Downloads Moonshine Base to your phone. Transcripts save as .md files alongside each recording. Nothing leaves your device.
Cloud (Google Apps Script + Gemini)
Runs in Google's cloud.
- Get a Gemini API key at Google AI Studio
- Open the transcription script
- Make a copy: click info in the left sidebar, then copy in the top right
- Replace
YOUR_API_KEY_HEREon line 23 with your Gemini key - Save (Ctrl+S)
- In the toolbar, the function dropdown should say
setup— click Run - Grant permissions to Google Apps Script when prompted
Every 5 minutes it checks your dispatch/ folder on Drive, transcribes new recordings, and saves each transcript as a .md file next to the recording.
Add billing to your Gemini account to opt out of them training on your data; $5 covers roughly 300 hours of recording.
Accessing recordings on other devices
With Google Drive connected, anything that can access your Drive — your laptop, cloud services, other phones — can reach your recordings and transcripts. Here are a few ways to pull them in:
Google Drive sync
Syncs your Drive dispatch/ folder to a local folder you choose. Installs rclone and schedules hourly syncing.
curl -sL https://dispatch.newyorkai.org/setup.sh | bash irm https://dispatch.newyorkai.org/setup.ps1 | iex curl -sL https://dispatch.newyorkai.org/setup.sh | bash Obsidian Sync
If you use Obsidian Sync, change the save location in Dispatch settings to point at your Obsidian vault folder on your phone. Transcripts (and Recordings if you turn on Audio in Settings > Sync) and transcripts sync to your other devices automatically.
Connecting to your agents
Once your recordings are syncing to a folder on your computer, anything that can read that folder — Claude Code, scripts, other agents — has access to your voice notes.
Claude Code
For a full hands-off pipeline — voice notes get transcribed, tasks get routed, and Claude takes action automatically — check out Delegate's Commands.
